The NY Times had an interesting article about speakers of indigenous Mexican languages in NY City. Some speak little or no Spanish and as a result are very isolated, a small minority within the larger community of immigrants from Latin America. See
That’s interesting. I came across one such immigrant when I was volunteering as a computer literacy teacher in Spanish Harlem. My heard went out to her because she had to deal with this language barrier on top of all the other usual immigrant issues.
